Ted Olsson started the world’s first battery shop – “Battery Bar” in a central island bar in the middle of Adelaide Arcade in 1976 and he successfully grew this business for the following 11 years. When he decided to retire, his son Greg took over.
Upon taking over he too grew and developed the business, sometimes even out of necessity. After having huge trouble trying to find a replacement light globe, he added a second bar and company called “City Globes.”
From there, both businesses outgrew the bars and Greg choose to merge the two into one bigger store in 1991.
Again, out of necessity, the range of stock grew again. Unable to find bags for a new vacuum cleaner, we added a range of vacuum bags. Then we picked up Maglite and Victorinox, and later Leatherman. Once LED torches started becoming available from LED Lenser and others, we were among the first to start selling them.
These years of experience, along with our wealth of knowledge, have made The Battery Bar what it is today. We continue the family nature of the Battery Bar with Dylan coming into the business about ten years ago. He brings a wealth of technical knowledge and expertise from both growing up with the business, and his studies in electronic engineering.
